The Center for English Language provides high quality, interactive test preparation courses for the CUNY ACT, GMAT, GRE, iBT TOEFL, and IELTS exams. Flexible schedules allow students to study during the day or evening. These courses are taught by experienced and caring instructors, who help students gain confidence and build their test-taking strategies.

Intensive 5-week courses, which meet 20 hours per week, are also offered for the GMAT, GRE, and TOEFL. Students in these courses may qualify for an I-20 and F-1 student visa.

To register for ESL test preparation courses, students must take the placement test.

Students who place into levels 5-10 may take any of our ESL test preparation courses. Please call our enrollment team at (646) 312-5000 to sign up for the ESL placement test.

Intensive TOEFL Preparation

Do you want to improve your TOEFL score? This 20-hour-per-week course provides intensive instruction and practice on the iBT TOEFL exam. Working with an experienced and caring teacher, students develop their English proficiency while building their test-taking strategies and skills. Special emphasis is placed on the independent and integrated tasks of the TOEFL, including reading, listening, writing and speaking. Instruction takes place in both classroom and computer lab settings. You need to be in levels 5-10 to take this course.

Intensive GMAT Preparation

Are you an international student who wants to go for an MBA? This course offers 20 hours per week of intensive GMAT preparation. Focus is placed on the quantitative (problem solving and data sufficiency) and verbal (reading comprehension, critical reasoning and sentence correction) sections of the exam. Students practice with GMAT sample questions, diagnostic tests and GMAT software.

Intensive GRE Preparation

Are you an international student who wants to go to graduate school? This course offers 20 hour per week of intensive GRE preparation. Focus is placed on analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. Studetns practice with GRE sample questions, diagnostic tests and GRE software.

Intensive IELTS Preparation

This course offers 20 hours per week of targeted instruction for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam. Learn the skills and strategies needed to succeed on the test with the help of one of our experienced and knowledgeable faculty. Each class includes short lectures, practical tips, exercises, activities and practice tests to build your confidence and help improve your score.
