It is recommended that students take a level 1 French, Mandarin or Spanish course or have prior knowledge of French, Mandarin or Spanish before entering the Language for Healthcare program.

Immerse yourself in the language of haute couture, cooking, philosophy and culture. In this beginning level you will engage in simple small talk about hobbies, professions, travel and food. Focus on the present tense, asking and giving directions, telling time and numbers. Read and write simple sentences.

In this course, you will continue conversation practice with such topics as weekly schedules, clothing, body parts, shopping, transportation, holidays and customs. Use the present and past tense while learning more complex verb conjugations. Read and write short passages while building your vocabulary.

At the end of this course, you will be able to hold conversations with native speakers on a variety of subjects including current events, literature, history, and social status. Practice your small talk and dining etiquette. You will also be able to write a short narrative essay, write and discuss a summary and express more complex ideas.

For the most advanced student, this course offers the opportunity to practice conversational skills related to current events and business, fashion, fads, music and pop culture with native speakers. You will also learn how to write an expository essay, give a short presentation, express sophisticated ideas and read more sophisticated texts.
