1. Who studies
in the Baruch Academic Intensive English Program?
We accept students
from all over the world, 17 years and above.
2. How many
students are in each class?
Our classes are small. The average number
of students is 15.
3. How many
levels does the program have, and how will I know what level I will
be placed in?
There are ten levels in our Academic Intensive English Program.
New students take a placement test that assesses their English proficiency in:
writing, listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension.
The results of the test determine what level a student should be placed in.
4. Do I need
to pay for the placement test?
Yes, the cost of the placement test
is $50.00.
5. Do I need
to take the TOEFL to enter the program?
No, students are not required
to take the TOEFL test.
6. What is
an I-20, and how long does it take get one?
An I-20 is an official
document issued by the school. International students need an I-20 to apply for
a U.S visa. It takes approximately a month for the school to issue an I-20 once
an I-20 application has been received from a student. For more information about

7. If I get
an I-20 form from Baruch, can I transfer to another school later
on?
Students
may transfer to another school after completing one term in the Academic Intensive
English Program at Baruch College.
8. Can I
enroll in the program on a tourist visa?
Students who enter the U.S.
on a tourist visa can attend one term of ESL classes. Tourists must be careful
not to remain in the US longer than the time allowed on the I-94 Travel Document
(white card found in passport).
9. How long
do I have to study before I can take a term off (term exemption)?
A
student must study for three terms before taking a term off.
10. Will
the program help me get into college or graduate school in the U.S.?
Students
who are applying to a City University undergraduate degree program and have completed
level 10 in our Academic Intensive English Program, do not need to take the TOEFL
exam. We also offer free workshops in the U.S. education system, applying to and
financing college or graduate school, resume writing and interviewing. For students
who hold a bachelor's degree from their country and would like to study American
business, the Baruch College Continuing and Professional Studies Program offers
a certificate in Contemporary
American Business Practices. |
