ESL Programs

The Center of English and Modern Languages offers a range of language programs specially designed to meet our students' academic, professional and social needs. We emphasize an integrated approach, ensuring that students not only gain a foundation in language structure, but more importantly, they become comfortable and confident in using the language to communicate with native speakers.

The Academic Intensive English Program
The Academic Intensive English Program is designed to help prepare non-native English speakers for college or graduate school in the United States. Students receive 20 hours per week of instruction in writing, reading, listening and speaking. Additionally, students choose an elective from a unique menu of courses, including grammar, TOEFL preparation, speaking through dance, website design, public speaking, business English, introduction to American culture and more. These courses allow students to develop their language skills while concentrating on an area of interest. Students in this program may qualify for an I-20 and F-1 student visa.

Intensive TOEFL Preparation
The Intensive TOEFL Preparation course meets 20 hours per week. Working with an experienced TOEFL instructor, students gain confidence as they perfect their test-taking strategies. Special emphasis is placed on the new sections of the iBT TOEFL, including the integrated writing and speaking tasks. Students in this course may qualify for an I-20 and F-1 student visa.

Business English
We also offer part-time and evening Business English courses that help students develop the language skills needed to be successful in the working world. Students select from courses in corporate communication, business writing, public speaking, American English pronunciation and grammar troubleshooting. These classes do not meet I-20 and F-1 student visa requirements.
